"Made about AD700 the Hunterston Brooch is a stunning Roman relic"

The Hunterston Brooch was found by a farmer in the 1830s on a piece of land below the three sisters rock face as shown below while digging some drains.

This silver gilt brooch was made around 700AD and is one of the finest Roman products of its time.

A replica of this Brooch is located in the Great Hall.
